Meet Our Staff: Elizabeth Fitzpatrick

As we begin this new TESOL Core Certificate program, we are excited to introduce you to one of our amazing staff members each month. We have an incredible team that is working diligently to provide you with a top-notch program, and we want you to get to know them. So, for the month of March, meet Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, one of our program Administrators. We had an opportunity to ask Liz some questions, and here are her answers:

What type of work did you do before coming to Promise?

I worked as the program coordinator/lead teacher for a small group of at-risk middle schoolers. This program encompassed a variety of field experiences along with a specialized mentor program. I have also offered private tutoring to young struggling readers.

What is your education background?

I graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science degree.

How did you learn about Promise?

I learned about Promise after I made the decision to leave the classroom. Even though I thoroughly enjoy teaching, I began to feel that I wasn’t giving enough time to my own children. When my eldest son was 11 years old, I decided to stay home. It was during this time that I began to look for a teach-from-home job and stumbled upon Promise.

What drew you to apply to or begin working for Promise?

Children all over the world deserve to receive a quality education where they can compete globally. This begins with well trained teachers. As a teacher for Promise K14, I was confident that a TESOL program built on the foundation of providing an “Excellent Education for Every Student of Every Nation,” would excel in its endeavors.

In addition to your role with our TESOL program, what else do you do for Promise?

I also teach for Promise K14. When I began to research the company, it thrilled me to find out that I could be given the chance to teach underprivileged kids in Korea. I didn’t think that I would get the opportunity so soon. My first teaching job was with an orphanage. I am in my second year with these students, and it has been fun to watch them grow not only academically but also physically. I never would’ve imagined that I could build meaningful relationships with students that are located over 6000 miles away!

Where do you live?

I live in a rural part of northeastern Mississippi. I have a beautiful view of a lush green pasture with cows grazing from my front porch. The winter is not so scenic because the cows are moved to another pasture, but each Spring they return with their calves frolicking up and down the hills.

What do you like to do for fun? What are your favorite hobbies or activities?

It is clear by now that I am a southern girl, and I enjoy fishing, camping, gardening, riding horses and all aspects of nature. Each year I celebrate the Biblical feasts with my family, and they are the highlight of my year.

Do you have a favorite inspirational quote that you would like to share?

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in His love. This is my command: Love each other.”John 15: 9, 10, 17 NIV

Thank you Liz for sharing!
